Established in 1985, Union County Health Foundation (UCHF, dba allPOINTS Health Services, APHS) operates three full time and one part-time service delivery sites serving the residents, including the medically underserved, in the communities of Alcester, Elk Point and Yankton.  However, the health center’s origins began nearly ten years earlier, with the formation of the Vermillion Health Foundation in Clay County, South Dakota. In 1978, the Foundation was expanded to include neighboring Union County, and the name was changed to the Clay-Union Health Foundation.  In 1985, Clay County lost its health manpower shortage designation, resulting in the reorganization of the governing Board and incorporation of the Union County Health Foundation to reflect these changes.

This historical perspective provides the backdrop for UCHF’s rebranding as the Board of Directors and senior leadership no longer felt the corporate name reflected the true purpose and mission of the organization, or that the general public and key stakeholders within the service area were aware of the organization and/or the services it provides.  More specifically, a new and positive image for the health center was needed, along with appropriate marketing initiatives to promote the new image and the health center’s services and programs, including sliding fee scale discounts for qualified un/underinsured patients.

A marketing committee was established including staff, board members and the community at-large to develop a new image for the corporation and the clinics in Alcester, Elk Point, and now Yankton. Because we are serving patients from South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska the name allPOINTS Health Services much better reflects the organization’s mission and vision.
