Ascension-Providence Mobile AL

Serve. Care. Heal.

Providence Hospital is a 349-bed, full service medical/surgical facility. Founded in 1854, Providence has been serving, caring for, healing the people of Mobile, and surrounding areas for more than 150 years. As a member of Ascension Health, the nation's largest Catholic and largest nonprofit health care system, the hospital's mission is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to south Alabama and southeast Mississippi, with a special concern for the poor and vulnerable. Mobile's most preferred hospital for ten consecutive years; Providence admits nearly 16,000 inpatients annually. Outpatient and emergency room registrations exceed 150,000 per year.

In 1987, in response to growth in western Mobile County, the hospital relocated to a 277-acre campus in west Mobile. All patient rooms are private, and none is more then nine feet from a nurse's station. Providence Park, a planned development adjacent to the hospital, includes hotels, restaurants and an office park.

In July 2006, Providence Hospital became affiliated with M.D. Anderson Physicians Network®, a subsidiary of The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center®, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center that is consistently ranked among the nation's top two cancer treatment centers. As such, Providence is the only system in Alabama to provide services under the M.D. Anderson Cancer Manager program®, which applies standardized, evidence and expert opinion based approach to treating cancer in a multidisciplinary setting. Providence oncology physicians credentialed by M.D. Anderson Physicians Network® have access to more than 100 detailed regimens for the diagnosis and treatment of almost every type and stage of cancer.

Besides cancer care, specialized service offered at Providence include open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterization, an obstetrics unit with labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum suites, a dedicated pediatrics unit, a freestanding rehabilitation and wellness center and a 100,000 square foot Outpatient Center with dedicated outpatient diagnostic services and surgical suites. Providence performs more open-heart surgeries than any hospital in the region and delivers more babies than any other private hospital in the area. The hospital's 550-plus-member medical staff includes representatives from every major medical specialty and subspecialty, with more than 200 physicians located in offices on the campus.

Affiliated with Providence Hospital is a physician network that includes eleven practices and forty-two physicians. This network includes seven Providence Family Physician centers, on Airport Boulevard and on Cottage Hill Road at Dawes Road in west Mobile, Citronelle, Robertsdale, Saraland, Semmes and Tillman's Corner. Other network practices include Mobile Diagnostic Center at Providence Park, Providence Medical Group on Cottage Hill near Knollwood, the Radiation Oncology Group and West Mobile Medical Group.

Providence Occupational Health offers employers a full-time occupational medicine physician, a dedicated Occupational Health clinic and a 28-foot mobile health unit, bringing services directly to the worksite.
