The Avera Cancer Institute is the region’s most comprehensive cancer center. The Institute offers state-of-the-art services in one convenient location and is home to 7 medical oncologists, 2 hematologists fellowship trained in bone marrow transplantation, 2 gynecologic oncologists, and 3 radiation oncologists providing intraoperative radiation for breast cancer and gamma knife treatments. South Dakota’s only bone marrow transplant center, located at the Avera Cancer Institute, has performed over 800 transplants. The transplants are comprised of autologous, related allogeneic and unrelated allogeneic using both myeloablative and nonmyeloablative protocols.
