Cogdell Memorial Hospital is a modern facility with 73 beds and an annual ED volume of 8,000. It is certified as Level IV trauma center. Snyder, the county seat of Scurry County, is at the junction of U.S. highways 84 and 180, eighty-seven miles southeast of Lubbock in the central part of the county. Oil remains important to the city's economy. Ranching and cotton farming also continue to employ a large part of the population.
