Sports fans find ample opportunity for enjoyment. The Dayton Dragons have captivated area residents, playing to sold-out crowds since minor league baseball returned to Dayton in 2000. University of Dayton basketball is a perennial favorite, along with Dayton Bombers hockey, and Wright State University basketball. Major league baseball's Cincinnati Reds and two NFL football teams are within a one- to two-hour drive.
The region's 35,000 acres of parks and nature preserves offer outdoor enjoyment year round and a growing network of cycling trails that provide miles of active recreation for families and cycling enthusiasts alike. The newest attraction is Riverscape, whose Five Rivers Fountain of Lights can be seen from Miami Valley Hospital.
A diverse selection of performing arts also awaits you. Dayton is home to the Dayton Ballet, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, a modern dance company rooted in the African American experience, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dayton Opera and Victoria Theatre Association. The Fraze Pavilion is a popular outdoor music venue and the annual Cityfolk Festival draws thousands to Dayton each June.
