North Mississippi Medical Center Logo As the county seat and largest city of Lee County, Mississippi, Tupelo is the 7th-largest city in the state and is accessed by U.S. Route 78. The city is best known as the birthplace of Elvis Presley. Some activities in Tupelo include the Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo, which is home to hundreds of animals and a large American bison herd, and the historic Natchez Trace Parkway that follows the original Natchez Trace Trail. Other historic sites include a 2,000-year-old Middle Woodland period burial earthworks and Civil War national battlefields.
