Pelican Rapids is located in the northwest part of Ottertail County Minnesota in the ‘Heart of Minnesota Lake Country’. Originally the area depended on agriculture with farms dotting the countryside. But as the community grew the dependence on agriculture has broadened to include processing of farm products, notably turkeys raised by local and regional turkey ranchers. Growth in tourism and a variety of other industry; heavy manufacturing, electronics, wood products and precision machining have added to Pelican Rapids economic development.

T he community of Pelican Rapids offers an excellent public school district, a variety of churches, year-round outodoor recreational activity, local cultural events and two city parks that feature a junior Olympic-size swimming pool, a picnic shelter, a campground as well as a playground. Nearby Maplewood State Park, located on beautiful Lake Lida offers an extensive trail system attracting hikers, horseback riders and cross-country skiers.
