THE HOSPITAL

Patients are admitted to Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital, a 110-bed facility, located just one block from the clinic. A not-for-profit, community-owned hospital, Fort Atkinson Memorial has eight hardwired ICU beds and 12 intermediate care beds with telemetry. Most specialty care is referred to Madison or Janesville - each located about 30 minutes from Fort Atkinson.

At the hospital, board-certified emergency medicine physicians provide emergency care 24-hours a day; and, 24-hour anesthesia is also available on-site. Other services include fluoroscopy; nuclear medicine; CT scan; mobile MRI and lithotripsy; stress testing; cardiac rehab Phase 11; echocardiography; occupational medicine; chemotherapy; endoseopy; and full rehabilitative care. In 1997, Fort Atkinson Memorial had 4,163 admissions and 13,000 ER visits. Currently, the hospital has 55 members on its staff.

THE COMMUNITY

Over 10,000 residents make their home in Fort Atkinson. Located in Jefferson County, the community offers outstanding educational opportunities, with six elementary schools - three public and three parochial - one middle school; one high school; 13 child day care centers; one vocational technical school; and a nearby University of Wisconsin campus - UW-Whitewater. Also in the area, there are over two dozen churches representing about one dozen denominations.

Centrally located between Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago, Fort Atkinson offers residents the benefits of a small community, with easy access to major metropolitan areas. The community enjoys a strong local economy, with numerous shopping, dining and service businesses; more than 80 civic organizations; and a public library. Also in Fort Atkinson, is the Fireside Restaurant and Playhall - a popular dinner theater which draws visitors from across the Midwest. Around the town, Fort Atkinson is surrounded by rich farm land with abundant agricultural heritage, housing businesses with national and international distribution.

When the work is done, residents enjoy countless year-round recreational activities in and near their pleasant community. Some of the most popular outdoor attractions are the local family aquatic center; nearby traits for biking, hiking, and cross country.
