Patients are admitted to Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital, a 110-bed facility, located just one block from the clinic. A not-for-profit, community-owned hospital, Fort Atkinson Memorial has eight hardwired ICU beds and 12 intermediate care beds with telemetry. Most specialty care is referred to Madison or Janesville - each located about 30 minutes from Fort Atkinson.
At the hospital, board-certified emergency medicine physicians provide emergency care 24-hours a day; and, 24-hour anesthesia is also available on-site. Other services include fluoroscopy; nuclear medicine; CT scan; mobile MRI and lithotripsy; stress testing; cardiac rehab Phase 11; echocardiography; occupational medicine; chemotherapy; endoseopy; and full rehabilitative care. In 1997, Fort Atkinson Memorial had 4,163 admissions and 13,000 ER visits. Currently, the hospital has 55 members on its staff.
Over 10,000 residents make their home in Fort Atkinson. Located in Jefferson County, the community offers outstanding educational opportunities, with six elementary schools - three public and three parochial - one middle school; one high school; 13 child day care centers; one vocational technical school; and a nearby University of Wisconsin campus - UW-Whitewater.
