St. Helena can be found in the center of the world-famous wine region of Napa Valley, 65 miles north of San Francisco. The area was settled in 1834 as part of a land grant to General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo from the Mexican government. The city of St. Helena was incorporated on March 24, 1876, and reincorporated on May 14, 1889. Today, St. Helena is a full-service city that encompasses 4 square miles. From its inception, St. Helena has served as a rural agricultural center. Over the years, with the growth and development of the wine industry, St. Helena has become an important business and banking center for the wine industry. Spend your leisure time biking through wine country, relaxing at a local spa, or browsing the many art galleries and trendy shops. Restaurants in the area are sure to offer special menus and treats considering that the California Branch of the Culinary Institute of America is located in St. Helena.
