Monticello is located in south-central Kentucky at the junction of Highways 90 and 92. Geologically, the city lies in both the Mississippi plateau and the Eastern Kentucky coal fields. Beautiful Lake Cumberland forms much of the northern border, while Tennessee forms the southern border.
