Welcome to Allied Digestive Health! We are seeking a FT  Pathologist to join our family in Red Bank, NJ. Join NJ's Premiere Gastroenterology Organization, in our state-of-the-art Lab!

Summary:  Responsible for efficiently, effectively, and accurately examining and diagnosing surgical specimens in compliance within CLIA/CAP guidelines and other applicable regulations. 

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Accurately signs out and reads slides of Pathology cases.
  • Follows ALL Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures and policies.
  • Prioritizes successful completion of  STAT  cases.
  • Notifies clinicians of  STAT  and malignant cases.
  • Effectively organizes daily workflow to meet established TAT and productivity standards
  • Meets Turn-Around-Time expectations of 90% cases signed out within 24 hours from the moment the cases are ready to the Pathologist for interpretation. For any delays in TAT, the Pathologist will notify management and the Medical Director. 
  • Notifies Medical Director about all delayed cases
  • Brings all case errors to the attention of the Medical Director and Lab Manager to facilitate investigation and proper handling of the correction of errors. 
  • Accurately follows the addendum, corrected, and amended reports process.
  • Checks all internal ADH communications  daily, including gGastro and ADH email. *
  • Reviews malignant cases, dysplasia cases and borderline or difficult cases with peers on a needed basis.   Case(s) should be reviewed within 1-2 days from when the case(s) is provided for review by the original Pathologist.    
  • Performs monthly QC in the computer in a timely fashion.   Cases for QC are distributed weekly and must be completed by the end of the month. 
  • Communicates with laboratory staff in writing all requests for stains, consults, or any updates/changes that needs to be done on a case in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Signs required documents such as annual reviews and special stain requests.   Annual review should be signed within 1 week.   Special stain and send out requests should be signed when they are ordered or soon as the next time the physician is in the office.  
  • When required, grosses surgical specimens and assists the Grossing Department with any assistance or questions in reference to the grossing of any specimen for which the grosser may request assistance.  
  • Per Diem  Pathologists  are required to check ADH email and gGastro on days when covering the laboratory
  • Actively participates in training activities to enhance clinical competency and proficiency 
  • Stays abreast of current research and development in the field of Pathology 
  • Keeps current with continuing education (CMEs) and provides current CME documents, License renewals, Board certifications, current CV, and insurance, if applicable, to the Lab Manager
  • Actively participates in understanding, implementing and supporting process improvements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills and approach required to perform the essential functions of the job in a manner which meets and surpasses industry standards 
  • Demonstrates commitment to lab by upholding standards for quality assurance and quality improvement that are in place and following all procedures. 
  • Daily review of communication with clinicians and ADH personnel via gGastro and emails regarding questions and problems

 

Essential Skills:   

  • Use sound judgment in decision-making
  • Understands and accurately uses the LIS Systems

•      Knowledge of control material and validation principles.

•  Understands proper use of laboratory computer functions and pathology software

•  Demonstrates knowledge of all safety standard precautions regarding histology laboratories including waste management. 

•  Demonstrates expert anatomical knowledge 

•    Sharp attention to Detail

•    Ability to work under pressure and to multitask

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA and follow these guidelines at all times.

 

Education and Experience Required

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy
  • 5-year pathology residency; 1–2-year optional pathology fellowship preferred 
  • Valid applicable state medical license; 
  • American Board of Pathology – Anatomic Pathology certified.
  • Formal Training in Anatomic Pathology as set by the American Board of Pathology.  

 

Certificates & Licenses:  Certification in anatomic and clinical pathology or anatomic pathology, by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology or possess qualifications equivalent to those required for certification.

 

Supervisory responsibility:   None 

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in a pathology lab environment.
  • Ability to work in a climate-controlled laboratory.
  • Involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials. Employees are required to read and follow Safety Data sheets.

Physical Demands

  • Moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, sitting, and bending.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see with visual acuity, talk and hear. 
  • The employee is frequently is required use hands to finger, handle or feel; bend and reach with hands and arms. 
  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and office and medical supplies, up to 20 pounds.
  • This position is required to use applicable medical equipment, as necessary, which may include sharp instrumentation.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position and occasional longer hours may be required.

Travel:  Local or long distance travel will be infrequent.
