Amazing Leadership Opportunity for Infectious Disease Medical Director

Northeast Georgia Physicians Group  (NGPG) is seeking an exceptional physician to lead our Infectious Disease program.  The Medical Director for Infectious Disease works with the hospital leadership and Infectious Disease team to ensure that the quality, safety, and appropriateness of Infectious Disease services are maintained. Additionally, this role provides input and assistance with the development of a strategic plan for infectious disease services. 

This position description below is not intended to be all inclusive, and the Medical Director of Infectious Disease will also perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Position overview

  • Provide consultation, guidance and support to the staff regarding ID medicine patient care issues and hospital policies and standards. Standardizes and integrates ID medicine patient care through development and review of care pathways for ID medicine patients.
  • Collaborates with Infection and Prevention control, Pharmacy, Microbiology, and other critical departments to best manage and support the Infectious Disease program.
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical staff and physicians when there are questions regarding adherence to standards of care and/or best practices, as outlined by hospital policies, procedures and standards
  • Maintain a current level of expertise in the practice of infectious disease medicine through, actively practicing in the field of infectious disease medicine, maintaining certification, literature review, attendance at scientific conferences and meetings and ongoing contact and interaction with other professionals. 
  • Provide education on Infectious Disease medicine related topics to nurses, physicians and other health care professionals within the organization as needed.
  • Review charts and provide guidance in complex clinical cases as needed.
  • Collaborate with the hospital leadership to ensure that the quality, safety and appropriateness of infectious disease services are maintained.
  • Oversees the process by which emerging medications and treatment options will be safely introduced to the program with adequate patient protection and oversight

Position Qualifications:

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified Infectious Disease
  • Minimum of 3 years post-fellowship experience required
  • Leadership or Stewardship experience required
  • Ability to obtain an active medical license in the state of Georgia
  • Passion for practicing in General Infectious Disease
  • Must function well in a team environment, contributing to and supporting organizational goals and initiatives.

  • Well experienced team of providers
    • 5 Physicians
    • 1 Advanced practitioner (currently recruiting for 2nd APP)
  • Professional and well experienced support staff in both clinic and hospital setting
  • Primary location in Gainesville and Braselton
  • Level 1 Trauma Center (Gainesville)
