ST MICHAEL'S HOSPITAL AVERA & BON HOMME FAMILY PRACTICE
St. Michael’s Hospital Avera is a progressive rural hospital licensed as a 25-bed critical access hospital with acute care and swing beds, two certified rural health clinics and a retail pharmacy. St. Michael’s Hospital is affiliated with Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD and Avera Health. The Avera Health network is a regional family of more than 100 healthcare facilities in the five-state region of Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and North Dakota.
Bon Homme Family Practice consists of rural health clinics located in Tyndall and Avon. St. Michael’s Hospital Avera is designated as a Trauma Receiving Hospital and provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services such as infusion therapy and chemotherapy, cardiac rehab, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutrition education, and cataract surgery. The digital radiology department includes onsite CT scans, bone density, ultrasound, cardiovascular testing and digital mammography as well as various mobile services. The attached retail pharmacy with onsite pharmacists provides enhanced services which are rarely available in a rural setting. Outreach specialty clinics including cardiology, ob/gyn, orthopedics, podiatry, and surgery are provided by area specialists.
Tyndall is home to more than 80 businesses, small industry and services, the Bon Homme School District, 5 churches and a volunteer fire department. Area historic attractions include Bon Homme County Courthouse, Tyndall City Library, Bon Homme Heritage Museum, Tyndall Veterans Memorial Park and the Eiffel Tower Replica. Education of area children is a priority for this charming community of 1200 people. Tyndall Elementary (K-5) has 164 students, Tyndall Middle School (6-8) has 97 students and Bon Homme High School (9-12) has 211 students. Tyndall is located in southeast South Dakota, just 30 minutes from Yankton, SD and 90 minutes from Sioux Falls, SD.
