Neuroscience Nurse Practitioner Opportunity in San Jose


To provide clinical expertise and continuity of care for Neuroscience/Stroke Service patients and their families on an ongoing basis.  The overall goal of providing quality and optimal patient recovery while maintaining costs is achieved through a case management approach.  This approach is directed by the Nurse Practitioner who collaborates with the Care Coordinators and other disciplines to organize care delivery and to facilitate the flow of the patient through the system.  Provides input in the development of standardized procedures and protocols and to assist the Program Director to meet departmental goals and objectives, co manage clinical strategies, and guide institution of latest treatment options. This role will actively participate in neurovascular research, to further improve patient outcomes. This position reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer.  This position must also maintain a close working relationship with staff in all departments including, physicians serving the Neuro -trauma, neurology and neurosurgical program. This position will meet the requirements of the facility nursing services matrix to meet professional aspects and regulatory issues and scope of practice.



Minimum:  Current CA RN License, Nurse Practitioner license. BLS, ACLS.

Preferred:    NP Board certification



Minimum:  Five years acute care experience as an RN in ED, or ICU.  Recent experience in Neuroscience/Stroke Service Line.

Preferred:    3-5 years Neuroscience/Stroke Service experience



Minimum:  BSN or equivalent Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree Nurse Practitioner

Preferred:    NP/Neuroscience/Neurovascular Fellowship



Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving, critical thinking ability, knowledge of Nursing Practice Act, and neurosurgical care.

Minimum:  Effective front line supervision, word processing/spreadsheet, time management, clinical proficiency, Title XXII, Quality Improvement

Preferred:    Completion of NP/Neurosciences Fellowship, Advanced Neurovascular Practitioner
