Thomas K. Warcup, DO, MHA
Dr. Warcup is a native Rhode Islander and board certified Family Medicine physician with 19 years of clinical and administrative experience. He received his medical degree from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine and a Master’s in Health Administration from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, NC.
Dr. Warcup was a National Health Service Corp Scholar and began his clinical career as one of two physicians with Thundermist Health Center of South County in 2001. Then in 2003, he became the Medical Director for the Narragansett Indian Health Center in Charlestown, RI. Concurrently, he was an active part of South County Hospital’s medical staff and served as the President of the Medical Staff prior joining the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill in 2011.
At UNC, he led a new progressive comprehensive care office for patients with chronic illness burden such as COPD, Congestive Heart Failure and Diabetes called Carolina Advanced Health. His role evolved into the Senior Medical Director for the UNC Health Alliance, the Next Generation Accountable Care Organization of UNC. In that role, he was responsible to execute a portfolio of health care interventions and cultural changes to achieve clinical quality metric goals and reduce care delivery variations across UNC’s clinically integrated office network. His and others’ efforts led to UNC Health Alliance being named the #1 Quality Next Generation ACO entity in the US in 2018 by the Center for Medicare Services.
Dr. Warcup is a former Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the Brown University School of Medicine and the University of New England. He currently holds an Adjunct Faculty appointment in Family Medicine at UNC- Chapel Hill.
