What’s your advice for residents who are beginning their job search? I was really worried that my first job had to be my forever job. I wish I learned sooner it is OK to change your job. You need to be happy where you work.
What was the most important factor in your search for a new job? There are three things: The atmosphere (positive, teamwork); decent pay; and for me, a four-day workweek to keep burnout to a minimum.
Anything particularly unique about your job search? I initially did permanent jobs. I was very unhappy at one and really needed a change. I decided to try locums and have really been enjoying it. I love meeting new practitioners and learning from them.
How did PracticeLink help you in your job search? PracticeLink is a great resource for job searching. I have one of the magazines saved that had a good article about looking for jobs.
Any other advice? Change isn’t a bad thing! Find a place you enjoy working at and where you feel appreciated. •
