Nash Health Care is a non-profit hospital authority comprised of five licensed hospitals totaling 403 beds: Nash General Hospital, Nash Day Hospital, the Bryant T. Aldridge Rehabilitation Center, Community Hospital and Coastal Plain Hospital. It serves Nash, Edgecombe, Halifax, Wilson and Johnston counties, but draws patients from beyond these areas as well.

Nash General Hospital is a 280-bed acute care facility that began admitting patients in 1971. It was the first all-private-room hospital in the state of North Carolina. During the past three decades, Nash General has aggressively implemented new strategies and acquired the latest technology to provide the best in patient care. The hospital built a state-of-the-art cardiovascular services center in 1990. In 1993, Nash General strengthened its reputation for health care excellence by opening an innovative 23,500 square-foot showcase Emergency Care Center.

In 1998 a new intensive care unit was opened, and in 2004, Nash Health Care Systems opened a state-of-the-art, $26 million Surgery Pavilion. This 84,800 square-foot facility features seven operating rooms and one cysto suite for urology procedures. There are 14 pre-op rooms and 13 recovery rooms. The pavilion serves as a “one-stop shop” where patients can complete their pre-operational lab work without having to go to several different locations. Anesthesia consults will also be done at the Surgery Pavilion. The waiting rooms were specifically designed to meet the physical and psychological needs of patients.  The rooms include CDs, flat-panel TVs and soothing sound and light machines to promote relaxation. In addition, there is a children’s waiting area designed especially for kids with computer games and coloring books.

Opened in 1984, Nash Day Hospital was North Carolina’s first freestanding hospital offering treatments and surgeries on an outpatient basis. Nash Day Hospital’s aggressive planning and management for the future continues to significantly broaden its scope of services to accommodate the growing trend toward outpatient procedures. NDH’s charges for surgical procedures are consistently among the lowest in the state.
